Fitting a fan shroud is very easy and adds a lot to the look of the engine bay very quickly

You will need:
  • a 10mm socket or spanner
  • a flat pointed philips screwdriver
  • your usual cleaning stuff

  • The first thing to do is remove the 5 black screws that hold the original...thing! in place. For some reason Mitsubishi chose to use plastic screws for this, so be careful. They round easily which is why I recommend using a philips screwdriver that has a flat point, rather than comes to a point
Once the screws are out you will see that they sat in round plugs. Pick up one end of the thing and they should pop up. Remove all five and the thing
At this point you might want to take the opportunity to clean under here. You won't be back here for a while, and might be as surprised as I was to find that it's finished paintwork under there!! Mine was so dirty I couldn't tell until I started cleaning
Once you have it nice and clean under there we can start with removing the bolts. Take a 10mm socket or spanner to the bolts closest to the rubber stoppers. Don't worry, nothing will fall off or even move. There are plenty of other bolts holding the bumper in place. Be careful when you are undoing these bolts. When they start to come undone it's easy to speed up and accidentally put a nasty scratch in the front of your car
Now you can start installing the shiny new fan shroud! I tried a number of combinations with screws and came to the conclusion that it fits best if the round plugs are sat directly into the body work. So put these in the holes. Then put the fan shroud in place with the cut out at the top on the right hand side. Screw in the 5 screws, being careful not to round them. Then put the bolts back in place. Most fan shouds come with some nice stainless steel bolts and washers. The bolts go in at a slight angle and won't lie flat, so don't over tighten the bolts or you will put a dent in the fan shround. And you're done!
